Almere City FC failed to record its second win in a row on Sunday afternoon. The team of trainer Gertjan Verbeek took the lead against ADO Den Haag in the Yanmar Stadium, but eventually lost 1-3. For the time being, Almere City therefore remains in eighteenth place, with a lead of only two points on last place FC Dordrecht. ADO, on the other hand, climbs to eighth place in the Kitchen Champion Division.

Almere City won for the first time since September 4 at a visit to Helmond Sport (with 1-2) last Monday and also got off to an excellent start against ADO. After twelve minutes of play, Lance Duijvestijn was the end station of a quick counter by the home team. The attacking midfielder was served by Jonas Arweiler and then shot the club where he played nine years in the youth academy from behind. Despite the early deficit, ADO put things in order before half-time.

With 36 minutes on the clock, a cross by Jamal Amofa at the far post was replaced by Samy Bourard, allowing Sem Stein to work the ball against the ropes. Thomas Verheydt put his old club behind four minutes later by shooting in a sharp free kick by Ricardo Kishna. Via Kishna, Steijn and Verheydt, ADO had great opportunities to run away from Almere City early in the second half, but the home team ultimately stayed in the game for a long time.

Almere City thought they would equalize with Maarten Pouwels with fifteen minutes to go, but his goal was canceled by referee Martin van den Kerkhof because ADO goalkeeper Luuk Koopmans was hindered. After Evan Rottier had shot into the side net, Vicente Besuijen decided the game in stoppage time. Goalkeeper Agil Etemadi joined the chase for the equalizer on a corner kick, leaving his goal empty when ADO captured the ball. Substitute Besuijen was therefore able to determine the final score at 1-3.
