Art Langeler will indeed be the new head coach of PEC Zwolle, it confirms Algemeen Dagblad after previous reporting from Studio Football. However, Langeler is not available immediately and that is why Eredivisionist Alfons Groenendijk is pushing the next four games forward as his head coach. After those first four duels, Groenendijk becomes Langeler’s assistant. The final contract details are currently being ironed out.

Langeler is currently employed by the KNVB as director of football development. The coach’s contract with the football association continues until April 1. Until then, Groenendijk will be ultimately responsible for the current number thirteen of the Eredivisie. The former midfielder was from July 2020 for a short time the assistant coach of Mark Wotte at Al-Wahda. After Groenendijk and Wotte criticized the corona measures at the club, they were already expelled after two months.

Langeler is no stranger to PEC Zwolle. He previously served in the club’s youth academy and was at the helm of the main squad from 2010 to 2013. Zwolle was promoted to the Eredivisie in 2012 under his leadership. Langeler then worked for four years as PSV’s head of youth education and was active as national coach of the Dutch Juniors between 2016 and 2018.
