There is a very good chance that Jay Gorter will ‘just’ be under the bar again at Ajax on Saturday afternoon. The team from Amsterdam then opens the new Eredivisie season with an away match at Fortuna Sittard and trainer Alfred Schreuder hints in conversation with the club channels of Ajax that the talented keeper will get another chance.

Last Saturday, Gorter made two more mistakes during the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale with PSV, which was lost 3-5 partly due to those mistakes. It was therefore expected that Remko Pasveer would take over the place in the Amsterdam goal, but Schreuder is not so sure yet. He saw Gorter ‘responding well’ to the training. “That’s important. Everyone saw what happened, but not all defenders went free with the goals.”

The Ajax coach already announced after the match against PSV that he was not only charging Gorter for the goals against. Yet Schreuder sat down with his keeper for a while and it seems that he would like to see a reaction from Gorter in the match. “You just have to discuss things like this internally. This makes him a big boy, more resilient. You have to be able to handle that. Now he just has to keep fighting hard. Whether Stekelenburg can already play? He has trained, but playing minutes would be too early to be.”

In the presumed arrangement of the General Newspaper however, no spot is reserved for Gorter. They assume that Pasveer will be under the bar and that he will refer his younger colleague to the bank. In addition, it can be seen in that presumed line-up that Mohammed Kudus will not get a base place after his good substitute against PSV and that Davy Klaassen can be found in the first eleven names. That would be at the expense of Edson Álvarez.

The suspected position of the AD: feather key; Rensch, Timber, Blind, Wijndal; Taylor, Klaassen, Berghuis; Antony, Bergwijn, Tadic.
