Latest update:

Alex Kroes returns to Ajax, the Amsterdam club reported in a press release on Thursday afternoon. Kroes will not return as general manager, but will fulfill the role of technical director in Amsterdam.

Kroes started as general manager at the Amsterdam club in March, but was suspended two weeks later by the Supervisory Board. He was accused of insider trading because he bought shares in the club just before his official appointment.

Kroes is now returning to Ajax in a different position. The Supervisory Board therefore reconsiders their decision. The Kroes issue has also been removed from the agenda of the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders. (EGM)

A press release from the club states that, if Kroes is found guilty of insider trading by an authority, Ajax will reconsider his titular appointment as technical director.

Supervisory Board chairman Michael van Praag: “We are not deaf to the sounds around us and have spoken frequently in recent weeks with people inside and outside Ajax, including the Board of Directors and of course with Alex himself.”

“It goes without saying that conditions were agreed upon that made this change possible. The club must move on and we believe that it is good for Ajax that we have ultimately arrived at this solution together. Alex will play an important role in the football technical part of the organization and focus in particular on the purchasing and sales policy,” Van Praag responds.

Alex Kroes: “I am very happy that we have found a suitable solution. That together we have put the interests of Ajax and football first. The focus at Ajax must be on football again.”

“We need everyone's support to finish this season as best as possible. At the same time, we will work together vigorously for the new season. It is high time to join forces as one Ajax and use all the knowledge and skills that are available. that Ajax players have within and around the club.”

“I look forward to building a bright future for Ajax not only with Louis van Gaal, Danny Blind, Marijn Beuker and Kelvin de Lang, but also with everyone around me. Ajax must become Ajax again,” the Amsterdam club concludes. press release.
