Manchester City are doing everything they can to untie Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, the German reported BILD. The Citizens would have bid no less than eighty million euros for the twenty-year-old central defender. That offer has since been rejected, but the German medium does not rule out City coming back again. So Pep Guardiola seems to be looking for a replacement for Nathan Ake.

Leipzig took over Gvardiol last summer for 18.8 million euros from Dinamo Zagreb. Because the young Croat is still stuck until mid-2026, the Germans do not want to get rid of him immediately. Gvardiol played 44 official games for Leipzig last season, scoring twice and providing three assists. Last season, Gvardiol won the German Cup with Leipzig. The lightning-fast defender has played ten caps for Croatia so far, in which he scored a goal.

In his own country, Gvardiol has been known for years as the greatest defensive talent. He made his debut in Zagreb’s main squad at the age of seventeen. In total, Gvardiol played 52 official games for the club, scoring four times and providing three assists. With Zagreb, the left leg became national champion twice and won the national cup. It is not known whether Gvardiol himself is already interested in a switch to City.

If that is the case, Aké seems to be the child of the bill. After Aymeric Laporte’s departure, it looked like he would get his chance from Guardiola, but the Spanish manager is now looking for a replacement. Ake was still in the base at City in the game against Liverpool (1-3 defeat) last Saturday. The Dutchman completed the entire match. Earlier this transfer window, the Manchester club informed Ake that he was absolutely not allowed to leave for Chelsea.
