Ajax travels to England with 22 players for the match against Brighton & Hove Albion in the group stage of the Europa League. The Amsterdam team’s club website states that Georges Mikautadze is missing due to illness, while interim coach Hedwiges Maduro cannot call on Jay Gorter and Devyne Rensch due to injuries.
Due to the dismissal of Maurice Steijn, Maduro temporarily takes over the honors at Ajax. It is expected that from next week he will assist John van ‘t Schip, with whom the Amsterdam team is currently in discussions.
Maduro can again call on Silvano Vos against Brighton. The young midfielder was missing from Ajax’s previous Europa League match with AEK Athens (1-1) due to a suspension.
Mikautadze is missing due to illness. Rensch and Gorter are unavailable due to injuries. The latter was injured on Sunday against FC Utrecht (4-3 loss) and was then replaced by Diant Ramaj by the now dismissed Steijn.
Ajax opened the group stage of the Europa League with a 3-3 draw against Olympique Marseille and is third in Group B with two points. Brighton is at the bottom with one point after a surprising home defeat against AEK and a draw L’OM.
The Seagulls are missing a laundry list of players against Ajax itself. For example, manager Roberto di Zerbi cannot call on Pervis Estupinan, Tariq Lamptey, Julio Enciso, Solly March and Danny Welbeck. There is a reasonable chance that the Dutch Joël Veltman, Jan Paul van Hecke and goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen will all appear at kick-off.
