Ajax has ended up with Hugo Souza in the search for a new goalkeeper, reports O Dia, one of the largest newspapers in Brazil. The team from Amsterdam would shortly send a delegation to South America to see the 22-year-old keeper of Flamengo at work with his own eyes. Moreover, Ajax would have the intention to make a bid.

According to O Dia has Ajax Hugo Souza, who is 1.98 meters, in its sights since 2020. According to the newspaper, the goalkeeper played an important role in the championship that Flamengo won in the 2020 vintage. Hugo Souza played in 23 of the 38 games played. Remarkably, that was only the first season that the Brazilian was stuck in the first selection of the South American top club. Including cup matches, the goalie has now scored 27 official matches. In 2018, he was already with the Brazilian national team for several friendly matches, but he did not play at that time.

Already in the summer transfer period, Ajax would have inquired about the availability of Hugo Souza, who at that time was about to become the club’s first goalkeeper. Then it became clear that Flamengo does not intend to let the goalkeeper go without a fight. On January 22 of this year, the closing post also extended its contract until mid-2025, which means that it has not become cheaper.

Brought last Saturday RTV Rijnmond out that Ajax would have informed Maduka Okoye from Sparta Rotterdam. That rumor was quelled a day later by Henk van Stee. “Absolute nonsense,” said Sparta’s technical director.
