Joey Veerman’s final station is not at PSV. Nikkie Bruinenberg, the agent of the Volendam midfielder, swears that in conversation with Football International. Stories about Veerman who would like to end up at a top club in the Netherlands are referred to the realm of fables by Bruinenberg.

Veerman’s agent noticed that an image about his client was created that was not correct. The Volendammer would have no problem with PSV being his final destination. “It was sometimes claimed that he was fine with it if he just ended up at a Dutch top club,” says Bruinenberg VI. “So that is a myth. Joey really has the ambition to continue in the long term.”

Imaging is something that Veerman and his entourage have often discussed. “I do try to translate to him what I hear about him on the market. So what clubs think of him. Rightly so or not, as a player you have to deal with that. Football is also a lot of imagery. Data can perhaps tell that you perform well, but if scouts are in the stands and they see you especially with your hand up when defending, it can make them doubt.”

Bruinenberg has the idea that the midfielder has listened to that and is now more concerned with how he comes across to others. “These are things we mainly talked about when we had the feeling that he was ready for the next step after Volendam. You might have to do something with that, I said. Maybe he sometimes wondered what I was talking about, But afterwards he really did something with it.”
