Abdou Harroui may be able to make a step into Serie A. According to Italian transfer journalist Nicolò Schira, Spezia is angling for the services of the playmaker, who is under contract with Sassuolo. The clubs are now in negotiations.

Sassuolo took over Harroui this summer for three million euros from Sparta, after the Dutch Junior International already played on a rental basis in the Mapei Stadium last season. Still in the same transfer window I Neroverdi so I could earn money from Harroui again. It is not clear what Spezia would be willing to pay for him and whether they would like to take over or hire the midfielder.

The 24-year-old midfielder played 434 minutes in Serie A last season, spread over 22 matches. In it, the Leidener did not come to an assist or goal. The highlight for Harroui at Sassuolo was his winning goal in the eighth final of the Coppa Italia against Cagliari. Before his move to the highest level in Italy, Harroui caused a furore at Sparta, where he joined the first team in 2018 and also made his debut in professional football.

Spezia will want to tempt Harroui with more chance of playing minutes and can then point to the switch of Albin Ekdal, who signed for Spezia earlier this summer on a free transfer and left Sampdoria before that. With his possible new employer, Harroui would probably have to fight against relegation. The team from La Spezia finished six points above the line last season. Sassuolo finished 11th last year and didn’t have to look down.
