Xavi Simons made his first league minutes of the season for Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening. As a replacement for Leandro Paredes, the eighteen-year-old midfielder participated in the last twenty minutes of the game with Olympique Lyon (1-1). Simons already left a good impression last week in the cup match at Vannes (0-4). The performances of the Dutchman, and his peer Edouard Michut, can charm Mauricio Pochettino.
Michut came in at the same time as a replacement for Ander Herrera and a few minutes later provided the assist for Thilo Kehrer’s 1-1. Peter Bosz’s team had already taken the lead after seven minutes via Lucas Paquetá. When asked whether Pochettino could not have started better with Simons and Michut, the trainer responded surprisingly. “You have a good point there, you are right,” said the Argentinian.

“It was a mistake, I should have started with these players. When they were on the pitch, we had a lot more movement, aggression and purpose in our game. I certainly liked that.” Simons, who came over from Barcelona in 2019, made his first official minutes in the PSG first in April last year. Two months earlier it was Michut’s turn. The attacking midfielder played 116 minutes in the Coupe de France this season.
Simons and PSG have been discussing a longer contractual relationship for some time. The midfielder reportedly only wants to sign if he is guaranteed to remain involved with the first team. If that is not the case, agent Mino Raiola is reportedly looking for a new employer for the son of former professional football player Regilio Simons.
