AS Monaco and Lille OSC shared the points in Ligue 1 on Friday evening. The reigning champions took a 0-2 lead in the first ten minutes at Stade Louis II, but Monaco eventually came back to 2-2. The final goal was scored by Wissam Ben Yedder, who replaced Myron Boadu and delivered the momentum the young base customer failed to deliver. At that time, Monaco was on the field with one man less.
Lille had not won the previous four league matches, but got off to an excellent start in Monaco. Jonathan David scored twice in the first ten minutes to boost his season tally to ten goals, making him the Ligue 1 top scorer. The Canadian was allowed to score after three minutes for a penalty after a tackle by Strahinja Pavlovic on Xeka in the box and found the right corner. David then appeared after a long ball from Tiago Djaló in front of keeper Alexander Nübel and finished off calmly.
In the final phase of the first half, Monaco found the connection via Krépin Diatta, who pulled in from the corner of the penalty area and hit hard with the left leg. Monaco looked for the equalizer and became threatening via Gelson Martins, who received the ball from Boadu. The assignment for the home side became a lot more challenging as Pavlovic received his second yellow card for a foul on Jonathan Ikoné, but not much later Monaco came in 2-2. Substitute Ben Yedder was reached in the penalty area by Kevin Volland and determined the final score from a difficult angle.
Ben Yedder came on for Boadu in minute 72 and scored eleven minutes later. For the second time this season, he overshadowed Boadu with a successful comeback: on September 22, Ben Yedder, as a replacement for the Dutchman, scored twice against Saint-Étienne (2-1 win). In the 2021 calendar year, Ben Yedder already scored eight times as a substitute; no other player from a top five league in Europe has done that more than five times. This season Ben Yedder has scored 7 league goals in 902 minutes, while Boadu has 0 goals after 447 minutes.
