Paris Saint-Germain also made no mistake on the eighth match day of the Ligue 1. Mauricio Pochettino’s team had enough goals from Idrissa Gueye and Julian Draxler in its own Parc des Princes to send Montpellier home scoreless. The top club from Paris has not lost a point after eight match days and is ten points ahead of Olympique Marseille, which has played two games less. Peter Bosz’s Olympique Lyon did not go further than a point against Lorient, while defending champion Lille OSC recorded a 1-2 victory over RC Strasbourg.

Paris Saint Germain – Montpellier 2-0
Lionel Messi was still injured at PSG and Georginio Wijnaldum disappeared from the base. Neymar tried in the opening phase with a chip that went just over the goal. After fifteen minutes it was a hit for Idrissa Gueye, who pushed the ball into the intersection from sixteen meters with the left: 1-0. PSG pushed hard, but only became dangerous again just before half-time, when Ander Herrera shot the ball on the crossbar.

After the break, Gueye tried again with a hard shot, which was caught by Jonas Omlin. The Montpellier goalkeeper also caught eye-to-eye with Neymar, who lingered too long and could also have played to Kylian Mbappe. The latter did manage to pass Omlin a few minutes later, but then shot the ball wide of the empty goal. Substitute Wijnaldum saw two minutes before the end how Julian Draxler shot in the 2-0 with his first contact with the ball. The German received the ball to the right of Neymar’s goal and shot it through Omlin’s legs: 2-0.

Olympique Lyon – Lorient 1-1
After fourteen minutes of play, Bosz’s team was already dealing with an undercount situation. Emerson Palmieri was shown a red card for kicking the breakthrough Enzo Le Fee in a sprint duel. The Lyon players pointed out that Jason Denayer was also still around, but the VAR was relentless. A wonderful free kick by Armand Laurienté also meant the 0-1 a few minutes later. Karl Toko Ekambi equalized five minutes after the break when he stormed into the goal after a good combination with Islam Slimani: 1-1. That was ultimately the final score.

RC Strasbourg – Lille OSC 1-2
Two goals from Jonathan David were decisive, although Timothy Weah also played a leading role. After an action by the American international, the Canadian signed for the 0-1. It was also Weah who was fouled, after which David made the 0-2 from eleven meters after an hour of play. The home team narrowed the disadvantageous margin through Ibrahima Sissoko, but the reigning national champion did not relinquish the victory. As usual, Sven Botman formed the central duo at the back of Lille together with José Fonte, which can be found in eighth place after the second win in a row.
