Fodé Fofana has extended his contract with PSV, the people of Eindhoven announced through the official channels. The eighteen-year-old striker still had a contract until mid-2022 and has recently been linked to a departure to Olympique Marseille, but has now signed a new contract with PSV, which runs until mid-2025. Fofana currently plays in Jong PSV.

“We are very pleased that Fodé has opted for PSV’s vision,” said director of football affairs John de Jong on the PSV website. “Fode proved to be able to score goals at Jong PSV last year and we think he has the potential to become a good player for PSV 1. We outlined a plan to him and Fodé became enthusiastic about it. I look forward to following his development in the coming years and am confident we will be hearing a lot more from him.”

For a long time it didn’t look like Fofana would extend his contract in Eindhoven. The attacker and his management have been in heavy negotiations with the club in recent times, it knows Eindhovens Dagblad to report. The newspaper wrote that, among other things, the presence of Ruud van Nistelrooy as the new trainer of Jong PSV has been an important aspect in the new collaboration. Two weeks ago, Fofana was accurate in the first league match of Jong PSV against FC Dordrecht, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Fofana has been playing for PSV since 2015, which took him over from Barcelona. During a street football tournament on holiday in Lyon, he was scouted by the Catalans, where at the age of ten he won a place in the youth academy as a player for the Groningen amateur club GVAV-Rapiditas through an internship. Because Barcelona had made mistakes in issuing contracts for children, he had to leave the Spanish top club after two years. PSV picked up Fofana at the age of twelve. In Eindhoven, the striker went through the youth academy and made his debut in professional football this season on behalf of Jong PSV.
