SC Cambuur booked an important victory on Sunday afternoon in the hunt for the championship in the Kitchen Champion Division. The league’s leader won 0-2 at number three Almere City and now has a six-point lead over number two De Graafschap. Jarchinio Antonia and Ragnar Oratmangoen took care of the goals.

The top match was watched by 1,351 spectators, who took a negative PCR test up to 48 hours before the game, underwent a temperature measurement and health check based on questions on arrival and must be retested in five days. It was the second match in a short time in the Kitchen Champion Division where the public was present: last Sunday 1153 people watched the game between NEC and De Graafschap.

Almere City started the game fiercely, but the first big chance was for Cambuur. After twelve minutes, club top scorer Robert Mühren was released after preparatory work by Oratmangoen for keeper Michael Woud, but the striker pushed the ball past. Halfway through the first half it was still a hit for the visitors. A sharply cut corner by Robin Maulun was extended by Mühren towards the far post, where Antonia headed home. John Yeboah missed a good chance of the equalizer, so it stayed at 0-1 before half time.

The second half started with shooting opportunities on both sides. Mees Hoedemakers, for example, was close to 0-2 several times and it was Oratmangoen who eventually scored that goal. That goal also fell from a corner. The championship is therefore far out of sight for Almere. The team of trainer Ole Tobiassen lost three of the last four games and faces a ten-point deficit against Cambuur.
