Andy van der Meijde thinks Hirving Lozano is an ‘irritating player’. During the broadcast of Veronica Offside the analyst said that he was somewhat bothered by the attitude of the PSV winger, who immediately tried to claim a penalty upon his return. “He’s a really annoying guy; he is always sucking,” says Van der Meijde.

In the match they won against NEC (4-0), PSV were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute, which was ultimately used by Ricardo Pepi. Before the penalty, Lozano, Pepi and Johan Bakayoko discussed who could take the lead, after which coach Bosz appointed Pepi as second man behind Luuk de Jong. “You could now see that the fuss started immediately with that penalty,” responds Van der Meijde, who watches images of the penalty moment.

“He’s really a guy who’s a bit annoying; always sucking a little. At some point you will start to get irritated with each other. He’s always been that way. The audience will whistle at Pepi because he takes the penalty,” said Van der Meijde. Wim Kieft believes that too much attention should not be paid to the moment of discussion. “In principle, not much has happened, right? You know in advance that Lozano wants that ball, especially when the crowd starts shouting his name. Peter Bosz solved that well, right? He simply says that it was not the agreement, because Bosz can also think: just let it go.”

“That guy is really going to be important for PSV,” Kieft continues. “Certainly for the Dutch level, this is simply a very good player. He won’t end up on the bench after all. Noa Lang is now also doubtful again. It is a problem with Lang by the way. When you get injured twice so early in the season… Even though Lang is being prepared for Wednesday, he will have to rest again during the weekend. At a certain point the best just plays,” the analyst concludes.
