Donny van de Beek will not make the switch to Barcelona in January, reports Sport. The name of the Manchester United midfielder has been floating around in Catalonia lately, but Xavi has personally put an end to his arrival. The new Barcelona coach has informed club management that he does not need any new midfielders at the moment.
With Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Philippe Coutinho, Nico González, Pedri, Gavi and Riqui Puig, Xavi currently has plenty to choose from for his midfield. That is why he has let it be known that Van de Beek’s arrival is not necessary at the moment. Ramón Planes – who resigned as technical secretary two weeks ago – brought up Van de Beek’s name again a few weeks ago within Barcelona. The Catalans also had him on their radar when he still played for Ajax.
Barcelona did not get further than a few conversations with Van de Beek’s entourage at the time. Planes now decided to contact him again to see what the situation of Van de Beek was at Manchester United. Van de Beek himself was interested in a move to Barcelona, after which it was presented to Xavi. However, Xavi has put an end to the arrival of Van de Beek.
The question is what the future of Van de Beek looks like now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been fired. The midfielder barely got to play under the Norwegian and only played in six games this season, of which two as a starting player. It was previously reported that Van de Beek would make a transfer in January if his prospects at Manchester United did not change. The arrival of a new (temporary) manager could change things for Van de Beek in Manchester.
