The star attacker, who had to leave a year ago because he could not be registered for LaLiga, deserves a second period at the Camp Nou, according to the coach. Xavi hopes that will happen during his time as a trainer.
Messi played his entire football life for Barcelona, until he had to leave the Catalan club due to financial problems. Paris Saint-Germain offered a solution at the time, but the first season in French service has not turned out as expected. Xavi saw that too. “I would like to see Messi’s time at Barcelona not already over,” he said at a press conference. “He deserves a second stint here at Barcelona. If you ask me if I want him to come back, I’ll say yes!”
Earlier, Laporta spoke words to the same effect. The chairman was the one who had to let Messi go and he wants to make up for that. “I owe him a return. For Barcelona, he has probably been the best player of all time. Only Johan Cruyff comes close in my opinion. I really hope the Messi chapter is not over. I think it is our responsibility to restore it. It is still open and not closed. It should have a better ending.”
The Argentine superstar still has a contract until mid-2023 at the Parc des Princes and could therefore return to Barcelona on a free transfer in a year. However, Messi has also repeatedly stated that he would like to play in Major League Soccer again and that he will live in the United States after his active career. The attacker is currently 35 years old, so that moment will not be long in coming.
