Xavi will definitely stay on as trainer of FC Barcelona for longer. President Joan Laporta announced this in a specially convened press conference. Laporta sat next to Xavi himself, who would then speak.

Late on Wednesday evening it was announced that Xavi had reversed his decision to leave Spotify Camp Nou. Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano and various Spanish media, including Mundo Deportivoreported that the 44-year-old coach would still serve out his contract that runs until mid-2025.

Now Laporta and Xavi jointly confirm that news. “I am pleased to say that Xavi will continue as coach of Barça 1,” the former said at the press conference. “Committing to stability is essential, and Xavi is an unmistakable one Barcelonaista.”

“My colleagues in the board see the same, and also see that it is very important to have a coach who always looks for the best for Barça.”

We can speak of a complete turnaround in Spotify Camp Nou. After the 3-5 loss to Villarreal in January, Xavi expressed his intention to leave at the end of the season. Now the coach says he realizes 'that the project is not yet finished'.

“I changed my mind because I felt the full confidence of the president, the board and also the players. My staff and I feel that we have the power to achieve important things and continue this project. This project is not yet to the end,” said Xavi.

Xavi joined Barça in November 2021 following the dismissal of Ronald Koeman. In his first full season at the helm, the 2022/23 season, the former midfielder immediately won the national title and the Supercopa. Things are not going so well this season. Real Madrid seems to be running away with the league title with an 11-point lead, while Barça has already been eliminated on all other fronts.
