Wout Weghorst submitted another open application to FC Twente last weekend. The 31-year-old striker from TSG Hoffenheim gave in his documentary Crazy Wout on Viaplay again indicated that he would like to play in De Grolsch Veste. Journalists Frank Bussink and Leon ten Voorde see that Weghorst is doing everything he can to realize his dream.

Weghorst is still owned by Burnley, where he is contracted until mid-2025. The tall striker from Borne is playing on a rental basis for Hoffenheim this season. Whether Weghorst is financially feasible for Twente remains to be seen. The Dutch striker still receives a princely salary, while his market value continues Transfer market is estimated at 9 million euros.

Weghorst himself knows exactly what he wants, as is evident from his documentary. “I've actually always said that. Ultimately, I still have one dream and that is to play for FC Twente. I used to go there with my brothers as a little boy, we would sit at Vak-P, among the fanatical fans. I would really like to play football there again in my career.”

The striker realizes that a possible return to the Eredivisie depends on several parties. “You always have to see how things go,” said Weghorst, who previously indicated that he still wants to be of value if he signs for Twente. “How long can I continue? I hope I'm still fit at 37. That I can still be of value.”

Bussink and Ten Voorde, who co-host the podcast The Balls mind about Twente, see that Weghorst uses all instruments to achieve a transfer to Enschede. “This was an open application,” notes Ten Voorde. “He swooned as if he were seeing his great love for the first time.”

Ten Voorde thinks it will happen. “You could see it in the sparkle in his eyes: everything is now being prepared for a transfer from Wout Weghorst to Twente. It all has to be possible financially in the end, because he still has a year at Burnley. They lost again last Saturday, an important match in the fight against relegation.”

“Burnley is going out,” predicts Ten Voorde. “He doesn't want to stay there either, so the question becomes what Burnley will ask for him. Can you stretch that a bit? Because the longer you wait, the less it will cost. On the other hand: if Weghorst comes, you should not arrive at the end of August, when you have played the Champions League preliminary round.”

Weghorst was also recently a guest in De Grolsch Veste during the match between Twente and FC Utrecht (0-1). Bussink thinks that the 29-time international knows exactly what he is doing. “Wout Weghorst also knows how this works. He has already been somewhat linked to Twente and will then sit in the stadium.” Ten Voorde then repeats that he thinks Weghorst will sign with Twente.
