FC Twente is still working hard on the arrival of Wout Weghorst. The Tukkers hope to take over the 31-year-old striker, who is on loan for TSG Hoffenheim, next summer for a reasonable price from Burnley, his actual employer. “There is a buyout sum in his contract,” agent Simon Cziommer confirms Football International.

Weghorst has been under contract with Burnley since the beginning of 2021, which has already rented him out three times after his first six months in the Premier League. This season Weghorst plays for Hoffenheim. The striker has 7 goals and 4 assists in 27 official matches for the number seven in the Bundesliga.

Burnley was relegated from the Premier League last Sunday. “In terms of budgeting, there is not that much difference between the Premier League and the Championship,” said Cziommer. “But Wout only has a one-year contract left.”

It is still unclear what Burnley's plans are with Weghorst. “I can't imagine that they want to keep him for a year and then let him leave on a free transfer. But I say that without having spoken to the club.”

It has been a long-cherished dream for Weghorst to one day play for FC Twente. “He thinks it's a fantastic club, just like me. I was able to play for it, Twente is my home. That's how it feels for Wout, who used to be in the stands as a supporter.”

Before Weghorst makes a decision about his future, it must become clear what Burnley plans to do. “Suppose manager Vincent Kompany now says: 'I need Wout to shoot us back to the Premier League, the rest doesn't interest me.' Then it becomes a completely different story.”
