Barcelona and Chelsea have Sport the last few days had contact again about Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. The Catalans already inquired in October about the availability of the two, of whom Ziyech would count as ‘the most interesting option’ for both parties. In the meantime, Barcelona would have been told that both Chelsea and Ziyech are open to a winter switch.

In any case, Xavi wants to add an attacking reinforcement to his selection in January. In recent days, the names of Ferran Torres (Manchester City) and Karim Adeyemi (Red Bull Salzburg) have already been explicitly mentioned for this vacancy, but Ziyech and Werner were also linked to Barcelona earlier. Barcelona already inquired about Ziyech and Werner in October. Over the past few days, the Catalans have Sport contacted Chelsea again.

Chelsea are willing to negotiate a departure from Werner or Ziyech on the right financial terms. The Blues would like to meet the financially troubled Barcelona by, for example, agreeing to a transfer fee that is paid in several installments. It remains to be seen who is considered the most desired reinforcement by the Barcelona coaching staff. Barcelona have already been in contact with the entourage of both Ziyech and Werner and they are both open to a move to Spain, to get to play there more often.

Ziyech and Werner both had a starting place last Sunday during the game between Chelsea and Manchester United (1-1). Despite this, they are both not sure of a place in manager Thomas Tuchel’s team. Ziyech – for whom forty million euros was paid to Ajax in 2020 – has played thirteen matches this season, nine of which as a basic player. Werner, who was taken over from RB Leipzig for 53 million euros, appeared once less at the kick-off and has twelve performances to his name for the time being.
