Antonio Conte has booked his first Premier League win as Tottenham Hotspur manager. Two weeks after the draw, we visited Everton (0-0) at the debut of the new trainer the Spurs a 2–1 win over Leeds United crossed the line. Tottenham ended a woeful run of four hours of play in the second half without a single shot on target. Steven Bergwijn sat on the couch with the Londoners for ninety minutes; Pascal Struijk started at Leeds in the starting line-up and Crysencio Summerville was not part of the match selection.

The visitors boldly took the lead in Conte’s home debut in the Premier League. In the eighth minute, Stuart Dallas fired just wide of Hugo Lloris’ goal: Tottenham had been warned. Great opportunities were not forthcoming for a long time on either side. The audience had to wait until the fortieth minute until it was Leeds again that tried to break through the glasses: Adam Forshaw aimed the leather just the wrong side of the post. The home team was unable to counter that offensively, as Tottenham had been struggling with this all season. To make matters worse, Leeds even took the lead a minute before half-time.

Jack Harrison put opponent Emerson Royal in sight with a nice passing move and gave Daniel James hard and low. The Welsh international only had to run into the ball: 0-1. The lead was well deserved and that will have come through at halftime at Tottenham. Fresh off the whistle for the second half, Harry Kane fired at Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier, marking the Londoners’ first attempt on goal in four hours of play. Tottenham had a go at it and tied the score in the 58th minute. Meslier was out of position on a cross from Sergio Reguilon; Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg saw that, who watched a pass from Lucas Moura into the resulting opening: 1-1.

Suddenly the roles were reversed and it was Tottenham who went on the hunt for victory. Halfway through the second half, a standard situation helped the home side take the lead. Eric Dier’s free kick ended up through the back of a Leeds defender and the post in front of Reguilon’s feet, who had it in front of him: 2-1. Leeds had lost their gun and the home side tried to tighten further control. However, that didn’t work anymore. Tottenham Hotspur rises to seventh place in the Premier League ranking with nineteen points due to the victory; Leeds United are just above the relegation zone with eleven points.
