Real Madrid have recovered from last weekend’s goal-rich misstep in La Liga. Six days after the 3-3 draw against Levante, Carlo Ancelotti’s team was too strong for Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis with minimal difference: 0-1. Daniel Carvajal scored the only goal. Real Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia and Real Mallorca lead the Spanish league with seven points from three matches.

In the first half, which went from more to less, Real Madrid were the better side in the opening phase. Ancelotti’s team dominated the match and also created a threat through Vinícius Júnior in particular. After a good play from the Brazilian on the left, Karim Benzema shot the ball just wide of Rui Silva’s goal.

However, Betis came out better as the first half progressed and Thibaut Courtois also put in some work. The goalkeeper defused a free kick by Nabil Fekir, saw a shot by Sergio Canales go over his goal and a few minutes before the break he was not surprised by an attempt by Juanmi.

Real Madrid tried to play at a faster pace after the break, but Ancelotti’s team visibly struggled to create any danger. After an hour of play, the 0-1 fell: Juanmi messed up a two-on-one situation and the opening goal fell in the counterattack. Vinícius Júnior was able to keep the ball in on the left net, after which Gareth Bale kept the overview and Carvajal worked the leather with a fine volley into the left corner.

That was also the final score in Sevilla, as only Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard had the prospect of a goal after that. After a good conquest of the ball, the Spaniard’s attempt went just wide and Rui Silva stopped the Belgian from scoring. Real Madrid, unbeaten in 21 league matches in a row since January 30, will play a home game against Celta de Vigo after the international match.
