Wim Kieft understands little of Alfred Schreuder’s behavior during the press conference after the match against Excelsior (7-1 win). The analyst says in Veronica Offside that the Ajax trainer was working on a ‘bland story’ and even calls it ‘Calimero behaviour’.

Kieft believes that Brobbey should always be the first choice as an Ajax striker. “It was just a nonsense story from that Schreuder, I mean that seriously. Brobbey is fetched for twenty million euros and has cost a lot of money. So you get a center forward and then people expect it to be your man, or am I crazy? Now he will spend the whole season tinkering to find his best composition, but just set up your own striker.”

Kieft’s argument then continues. “Then he will play with Kudus, who is not a striker. He did a pretty good job and scored a few goals, but Brobbey had also scored them. That’s just a more logical choice. If Mr. Schreuder does not allow us to ask questions, or if he says he knows where those questions come from, I think that is a bit of Calimero behavior.”

Regular dinner guest Andy van der Meijde also saw Schreuder get frustrated. “He just wanted to show, because he is at the top, that he is right after all. It is of course always difficult when you are an Ajax trainer, but I don’t think you should do this. If it doesn’t affect you so much, you should continue that line, not suddenly come out after a 7-1 victory against Excelsior.”
