Latest update:

Emmanuel Macron remains hopeful that Kylian Mbappé will compete at the Olympic Games in Paris next summer, the French president said in an interview with sports channel RMC.

It appears that Mbappé will be under contract with Real Madrid next season. The 26-year-old attacker has an expiring contract with Paris Saint-Germain and will not re-sign.

However, Macron has one problem. Real Madrid never releases players to play in the Olympic Games. That certainly does not seem to be happening now, as Mbappé will be active with France at the European Championships in Germany earlier this summer.

Only players under the age of 23 may participate in the Olympic Games, but each country may call on three dispensation players. France and Macron would like to see Mbappé as one of the three routines.

“I want a competitive team. I am confident that the clubs in Europe will do their part, although I fear that the European Championship could still become an obstacle,” said Macron.

The president of France has not yet spoken to Mbappé, but the winger has previously indicated that he is open to participating in the sporting event.

“It's my employer who decides. It will be a pleasure to play for France, but if my employer doesn't want to, I will support that decision. I don't think it will take them much time to think about it.”
