Owen Wijndal suffered a nasty injury on Tuesday evening. The left back of Ajax came into hard contact with the advertising boards in the Champions League match against Rangers just before half-time and remained in the gutter that is located there on Ibrox. Wijndal had to be replaced, supported by two caretakers. Daley Blind would be the most obvious replacement as left back, but Alfred Schreuder chose Devyne Rensch. Ajax leads 0-2 at halftime after goals from Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus.

In the images, Wijndal’s injury looks annoying. A huge downer for the former AZ player, who had just returned from an injury. Wijndal started for the first time since August in the base at Ajax and was preferred over Blind, usually the permanent left back. Blind is on the bench, but was not allowed to enter the field, because Schreuder chose Rensch. The latter has also just recovered from an injury.
