Sarina Wiegman is in the picture to become national coach of the Dutch men’s team in the future. That writes The Telegraph, based on private conversations of senior KNVB officials. It would have been said that Wiegman would be shortlisted once the position becomes vacant. Current national coach Ronald Koeman is still fixed until the 2026 World Cup.

Wiegman is very successful with the English women and recently reached the World Cup final. Although it was lost, she did seize the European title a year earlier. She also succeeded in 2017 with the the Dutch Lionesses. Her honors list and high percentage of matches won (from 2016 73.87 percent) means that Wiegman has a very good reputation at the KNVB.

The union is seriously considering the Hague as national coach of the men, knows The Telegraph. Now Koeman still holds that position. Koeman does that for the second time, but has not yet made as much of an impression as in his first period. Only one of his first four games was won; the rest were lost. The victory was also against Gibraltar, the current number 198 in the world.

Wiegman still has a contract with the English Association (FA) until 2025. However, the FA would love to bind her longer. In any case, Wiegman wishes to serve her commitment: she already declined an offer to become the national coach of the American women. Her focus is now on the next European Championship, which will be played in Switzerland in 2025. Qualification for that tournament will start in February 2024.
