FC Twente will take on Turkish top club Fenerbahçe in the last preliminary round of the Conference League qualification in Istanbul on Thursday evening. However, Twente coach Joseph Oosting does not have a fit selection and will have to shift considerably in his team. For example, no risk is taken with Joshua Brenet. He is injured and there is also something going on in the private sphere, which is why he stayed behind in the Netherlands.
Youri Regeer fell out together with Brenet in the Overijssel derby against PEC Zwolle last weekend (3-1 win). Still, Regeer trained all week, albeit separately. At the press moment, Oosting said that it will only be decided on match day whether Regeer can start in the base. Brenet is therefore not participating anyway. Thanks to his absence, Mats Rots, who also started against Zwolle in the base, is probably allowed to start from the start in the Sükrü Saracoglu Stadium.
The right-back position will most likely be filled by Alfons Sampsted. The Icelander was already accurate for the club earlier in the European adventure. He scored the 1-0 in the game against FC Riga (2-0 win). Now the 25-year-old back faces a tough job: he has to make Dusan Tadic harmless. In midfield, Sem Steijn and Michal Sadílek seem to be certain of a place in the starting line-up. It remains to be seen whether Regeer or Mathias Kjølø will complete the line.
In the front there is a chance that Naci Ünüvar will make his basic debut. The Ajax mercenary says he is fit enough to start and he was present at the press conference, which may be a sign that he will appear at the kick-off. Nevertheless, Michel Vlap also returns from an injury, so it may also be that he is preferred on the left front. Manfred Ugalde will serve as the striker and the brother of Mats Rots, Daan Rots, will start at the front right.
At Fenerbahçe, four former Eredivisie football players are expected to start in the starting eleven. Jayden Oosterwolde will play at left back. On left front Dusan Tadic, Sebastian Szymanski is undisputed and former NEC talent Ferdi Kadioglu is also likely to make an appearance on Thursday evening.
