Valentijn Driessen is not yet convinced by the players who will get a chance at PSV due to an injury wave. In a video by The Telegraph the names of players such as Mauro Júnior, Éríck Gutiérrez and Bruma, who all had a starting place on Thursday against Sturm Graz (2-0 win). Driessen does not want to “run the polonaise” behind those players, the football chief of the newspaper says the day after the Europa League match.

“We first have to see it against good opponents, because I think Sturm Graz had not won the last five games (six, ed.)”, says Driessen about the ‘newcomers’ in the basic line-up of PSV. He admits that the Eindhoven team did play ‘good’ on Saturday in the league match against Vitesse (2-0 win), in which the three players mentioned all appeared at the kick-off. “Although Vitesse was not really itself in that match,” the journalist adds.

“In Eindhoven, Vitesse looked a bit like frightened weasels. In France (Thursday against Stade Rennes, ed.), Vitesse dared. I first have to see it against good opponents. It’s not as if Guti has suddenly become a great player. Or Bruma, everyone is now behind the polonaise,” Driessen continues. Before the international match, Bruma scored twice against Fortuna Sittard (1-4 win), was accurate against Vitesse on Saturday and determined the final score against Sturm Graz on Thursday.

Finally, Driessen is also critical of Carlos Vinícius, who opened the score against Sturm Graz from a penalty kick. It was his first goal for PSV in a European context. He celebrated his goal by folding his arms over each other, a gesture that Driessen has little understanding for. “That Vinicius is acting very strange again. He shoots a penalty through the keeper, he will act very tough, while there was no audience at all! What a very strange man that is.”
