Latest update:

Naby Keïta's adventure at Werder Bremen is over, the German club announced on Tuesday afternoon via official channels. According to Werder Bremen, the midfielder refused to board the bus on Sunday afternoon when he heard that he would not start against Bayer Leverkusen (5-0 loss).

Keïta decided to simply drive back home on Sunday, when he got the news. The club calls the behavior of the 29-year-old midfielder unacceptable. In addition to a suspension, he has also been given a hefty fine.

Keïta also made herself heard on Instagram on Tuesday. “I would like to clarify my situation at my club Werder Bremen. Since I joined this great club, I have always behaved professionally.”

“I have always tried to serve the club and its players. great fans to help out, especially when things aren't going well, as is the case now. Since the beginning of my career, I have never had any discipline problems and have always behaved in an exemplary manner. I will not accept it if my reputation is tarnished,” the playmaker's statement read.

Keita's transfer to Werder Bremen can certainly be called anything but a success. He came over from Liverpool on a free transfer last summer, but the Malian only played 106 minutes due to injuries.

Keïta's contract runs with Werder Bremen until mid-2026, but due to the suspension it seems that he can look forward to a new club in the coming transfer period. According to Transfer market he is still worth four million euros.

In 2018, he was acquired by Liverpool from RB Leipzig for no less than sixty million euros. He also struggled with injuries in England and only played 129 matches in total. He managed to score eleven times and also provided seven assists.
