VVV-Venlo is making a guard of honor for Ajax on Thursday afternoon. The numbers seventeen and one of the Eredivisie will meet at 2.30 p.m. in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Last week, the national champion did not receive a guard of honor from Feyenoord, but VVV has decided to congratulate Ajax in that way. “Look. I did not know that, but then we will be surprised”, Erik ten Hag responds shortly before the match ESPN on the guard of honor for his team.

“In the Netherlands, it is not customary to form a guard of honor. We will shake hands and congratulate them”, Feyenoord trainer Dick Advocaat stated last week the decision not to form a guard of honor for the Classic. “Sour? I say they have done a great job? They have done very well with the title and the cup. In England a guard of honor is customary. Not here. Then why should we take the lead again to do that? ” VVV trainer Jos Luhukay said before the match that his team will form ‘a small hedge’.

Ajax celebrated the national title by melting down the championship scale and sending all season ticket holders a ‘champion star’. “I am very proud of it, just like our fans. I think it is a great promotion”, Ten Hag said on Thursday afternoon shortly before the game. “Ajax wants to express the connection between the team, the staff, the employees and the fans. We yearn for them to be here again next season, but I think every club does.”
