Vurnon Anita can be admired again on the training field of RKC Waalwijk from Monday. The 32-year-old midfielder comes ‘on trial’ with the team of coach Joseph Oosting, after he chose not to accept a contract proposal from the Waalwijkers after last season. However, the summer did not go as planned for Anita.

Anita signed a one-year contract with RKC a year ago and eventually came to 29 matches for the team of Fred Grim, who left for fellow Dutchman Willem II. Although the club wanted to continue with Anita longer, the routine kept the boat off. However, a new club did not report, partly because a corona outbreak prevented Curaçao from participating in the Gold Cup tournament and he could play in the spotlight there.

Anita initially joins in to improve his condition, but it is generally known that RKC is still looking for new players. The midfielder was an attentive spectator on Saturday at the 4-2 practice win over Lommel SK. “He hasn’t trained and played for a long time. I think it’s great about RKC that those kinds of men can train along,” Oosting told the Brabants Dagblad.

“As we have done with Alexander Büttner before. Then we’ll see. Can it be of value or not. I can’t say that yet,” emphasized Oosting. In addition to the arrival of Büttner, RKC, which finished fifteenth in the Eredivisie last season and will play at home against AZ next Saturday, also surprisingly assured itself of the arrival of Michiel Kramer. Last season, Gregory van der Wiel also trained in Waalwijk, but that did not lead to a contract.

Anita played for Ajax between 2005 and 2012, with which he became champion twice. In the years that followed, the three-time the Dutch international played for Newcastle United and Leeds United in England, Willem II and the Bulgarian CSKA Sofia.
