FC Volendam booked a late victory over FC Emmen on Saturday evening. In-house it became 3-1 for the North Hollanders. Emmen was the better side in the first half and took the lead about fifteen seconds after the break, after a curious own goal by Filip Stankovic. Nevertheless, Volendam managed to turn it around through hits from Benaissa Benamar, Bilal Ould-Chikh and Daryl van Mieghem. Thanks to the victory, Volendam climbs to fourteenth place. Emmen has five points less (eighteen) and is sixteenth.

Volendam coach Wim Jonk had a starting place for Henk Veerman. The striker is by no means always assured of a place in the first half, but was allowed to show it against Emmen in the absence of the suspended Gaetano Oristanio. Robert Mühren started on the bench. Florent Da Silva was back in the starting line-up after starting two games on the bench. Emmen suffered from the necessary injuries. Partly for this reason, Richairo Zivkovic started in the striker position. The attacker was supported in his back by Ole Romeny, Mark Diemers and Jeremy Antonisse. For the latter, it meant his second starting place for Emmen since his temporary transfer from PSV.

The opening phase of the game was for Volendam, which had two good opportunities. First of all, Van Mieghem encountered Mickey van der Hart after a good combination, after which the goalkeeper also had an answer to a low hard shot from Veerman. A header from Josh Flint went over minutes later. Afterwards, Emmen took control. Diemers made it difficult for Volendam goalie Stankovic with a treacherous shot, after which Antonisse was just unable to make it 0-1. Romeny then tried in vain from a corner kick, after which an attempt by Diemers bounced off the inside of the post. The rebound was headed over by Romeny. Antonisse (twice) and Lucas Bernadou also failed to find the net, to the disbelief of the visitors.

Only fifteen seconds after the break Emmen needed to take the lead. Xavier Mbuyamba and Stankovic did not intervene with a falling ball, which Romeny took advantage of. The attacker headed against the post, after which Stankovic worked the ball over his own goal line: 0-1. Almost immediately afterwards, Volendam became dangerous from a corner kick. Veerman first headed to Van der Hart, after which the strong playing goalie also had an answer to a header from Flint. Oskar Buur was also very close. The Dane’s shot was headed off the goal line by Mike te Wierik.

Moments later, Volendam got a corner kick, which didn’t seem to deserve it after a touch from Walid Ould-Chikh. However, the home team took full advantage. Van Mieghem’s corner kick landed on Benamar’s head, who hit the target: 1-1. Both teams became dangerous in the final phase, but Zivkovic, among others, failed to find the net. The attempt by the striker, who was allowed to play in a promising position, lacked power. On the other hand, it was hit. Bilal Ould-Chikh was found on the right side of the box, steamed towards goal and shot flawlessly: 2-1. After an error of judgment by Keziah Veendorp, Van Mieghem also made it 3-1 in injury time.
