FC Volendam has not been able to continue the bizarre comeback of last Wednesday against Young Ajax (3-2 win). The team of trainer Wim Jonk was the parent game against FC Eindhoven on Saturday afternoon for large parts of the match in the Kitchen Champion Division, but only managed to convert the chances into a goal once: 1-1. Due to the division of points, Volendam does rise one place in the rankings, so that the team is now seventh. Eindhoven is stuck in thirteenth place.

Eindhoven started the match sharper and also handed out the first pinpricks. After a rapid outbreak, Hugo Botermans was tailor-made by Jacky Donkor. The attacker seemed to have the ball for shooting, but came just too late. Donkor also failed to find the net with a shot from a corner kick that was turned off. The first option of Volendam was immediately hit. The defense of Eindhoven did not pay attention, after which Zakaria El Azzouzi scored in complete freedom for the opening goal on a pass from Micky van de Ven: 0-1.

It was also the moment when the visitors got into the game better and almost doubled the score via Denso Kasius not much later. The defender lashed out after a corner kick that was turned off, but saw the ball hit the post via Boy Deul’s foot and goalkeeper Ruud Swinkels’s fingertips. Just before half time, Jonk’s team turned up dangerously again in front of Swinkels’ goal. Ibrahim El Kadiri thought he could become dangerous, but was visibly hindered by Dico Jap Tjong. However, referee Edwin van de Graaf did not want to know about a penalty and dismissed the protests.

In the second act, there was significantly less to enjoy for both goals and it was Swinkels who got his own defense into trouble. The goalkeeper had to watch as Francesco Antonucci almost took advantage of a bad kick. However, the Belgian shot just wide. Completely against the ratio, Eindhoven then came to the same level. Donkor brought the ball in front of the goal in two instances and saw how goalkeeper Joey Roggeveen handled the leather badly, by putting the ball in front of Tjong’s feet: 1-1. In the final phase, Volendam started one more time when Marco Tol seemed to tap the ball past Swinkels into the goal, but Valentino Vermeulen acted just before the goal line.
