Vitesse has secured the services of Yann Gboho for this season, according to a press release. The twenty-year-old attacking midfielder is rented from Stade Rennes. The Arnhemmers, who have not negotiated an option to buy, hope to add the necessary creativity to the team with Gboho. “I am convinced that I can take the next steps in my development here,” says the French youth international.

Gboho was born in Ivory Coast and came to Martinique via Gabon, where his youth career began with Aiglon du Lamentin. After a move to France and several years at FC Rouen, the midfielder chose Stade Rennes in 2016 as a next step. In August 2019, he made his official debut in the Supercup against Paris Saint-Germain. In total, Gboho is on 32 official duels for Rennes, in which he scored 2 times and provided 3 assists. He was temporarily allowed to leave his club, after Kamaldeen Sulemana took over from FC Nordsjaelland.

Gboho explains what he can do for Vitesse. “With my creativity, technique and speed I hope to be of value to the team,” said Gboho. “It is great that Vitesse will also play European football this season. My seven performances in a European context leave me wanting more. I’m looking forward to being on the pitch and making something beautiful with the staff and my new teammates.”

Vitesse may see Gboho as a replacement for Oussama Tannane, who has permission to make a transfer and barely made minutes in the preparation. “Yann is an attacking midfielder, who has the creativity to provide a good final pass and also has the punch to become dangerous himself in the box,” says technical director Johannes Spors. “He is a dynamic and creative player, with speed and good individual action. These weapons make him a strong number ten, but he also comes into his own in several positions in attack. We are very pleased with this great talent and thank you Stade Rennes for making his arrival possible.”

Vitesse was already quite active on the transfer market. Daan Reiziger, Toni Domgjoni, Julian Von Moos, Romaric Yapi, Nikolai Baden Frederiksen and Markus Schubert were also hired for Gboho. Jacob Rasmussen and Loïs Openda were also hired for an extra season. “It is nice that the contours of our selection are already clearly visible at this stage of the transfer window,” concludes Spors.
