The shock struck Jürgen Klopp in the absolute final phase of the match between the Dutch national team and Turkey (6-1). Virgil van Dijk stumbled off the field after being hit in the ankle prior to the goal against Cengiz Ünder. Klopp tells Liverpool’s website that he asked Van Dijk to send a video so that he could prove that nothing serious was going on.

“You can imagine it was a scary moment. I messaged him after the game: ‘Are you okay?’ He replied ‘yes’ to that. I asked him if he was one hundred percent sure. “Two hundred percent,” Virgil replied,” Klopp said. Still, the manager of Liverpool was not completely reassured. “I responded, ‘Come on, send me a video showing you’re not limping’. Virgl said he just limped off the field.”

“So he called me from the bus to say he was fine. I asked why he was limping. “My wife asked the same thing,” Virgil said. So yeah, it was a bit of an exciting moment. But apart from that, everything went well during the international match,” said the Liverpool manager. Van Dijk has just returned from a serious knee injury, which kept him sidelined for most of last season and made him miss the European Championship.

“I’m already over that. I just play the matches without fear. If you get a tap is never fun, but it’s part of it,” said Van Dijk after the game against Turkey in front of the camera of the NOS. “It’s not too bad, luckily. It was of course a ball that was a little too soft. Maybe it has to do with concentration. I already had a yellow card, so I’m not going to go in completely. But he hit me nicely on my ankle .Maybe because I’m so big they think I’m getting upset. Because then I fall, but then it looks a bit sluggish.”
