Bayern Munich hopes to appoint a new coach sometime in the coming days, Florian Plettenberg confirms Sky Sports. Der Rekordmeister is currently having positive discussions with Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, who, according to the German journalist, is also preferred by the club management. The 38-year-old coach may therefore not have to enter the Championship again the Claretswho were relegated from the Premier League this season.

Bayern has been looking for a successor to Thomas Tuchel for months. The likes of Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick, Julian Nagelsmann, Unai Emery, Hansi Flick and Roberto De Zerbi were all recruited der Rekordmeister linked, but Bayern did not reach an agreement with any of these candidates.

On Monday evening it emerged that Bayern had shifted their attention to England. Plettenberg reported that the Germans focused on a small group of candidates from the Premier League. One of these was Kompany.

The former Belgian defender is now the main candidate to take over in the Allianz Arena from Tuchel, who is leaving Bavaria this summer. In February it was announced that the trainer was going to say goodbye, after which he entered into discussions with Bayern in the following months about possibly staying. However, those discussions did not result in an agreement, so Tuchel still packed his bags.

Kompany may therefore become his successor. “We can confirm that discussions between Bayern, Kompany and its management are ongoing and they are going positively,” says Plettenberg. “Our information tells us that Kompany is the preferred choice at the moment.”

“The club management is fully focused on the conversations with Kompany,” the journalist continues. However, Plettenberg emphasizes that no agreement has yet been reached and nothing has been signed. “But Bayern hopes to appoint a new coach sometime in the coming days.”

The journalist also reports that Bayern has obtained information this week about Mauricio Pochettino, who is leaving Chelsea. Der Rekordmeister however, has had no contact with the Argentinian. “For us, that is a sign that the club is fully focused on Kompany,” said Plettenberg.

Kompany has been the manager of Burnley since the summer of 2022, with whom he was immediately promoted to the Premier League in his first season. The Clarets finished this year in nineteenth place, meaning the club will return to the Championship next season.
