The match between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Marseille got completely out of hand on Sunday evening. Seventeen cards were finally dealt, five of which were red, and Neymar accused opponent Álvaro González of racism. It also became unfriendly between the trainers afterwards, and Olympique Marseille coach André Villas-Boas did not fail to hand out another small sneer to colleague Thomas Tuchel at the press conference.

Villas-Boas was asked at the press conference what was said afterwards when it seemed to become unfriendly between the staff of PSG and the staff of Olympique Marseille. “These are normal insults. ‘You are shit. No, you’re… shit’. Tuchel told me to play the lottery. I answered him that he should have done so after the match against Atalanta”, points Villas-Boas to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, which turned PSG in the last few minutes to a 2-1 victory.

“I have great respect for him and appreciate what he’s doing. PSG is waiting for only one cup: the Champions League. You can’t invest one and a half billion and not win the Champions League”, the Portuguese practice master continues. “Carlo Ancelotti worked at PSG, he’s with Everton now. Unai Emery now works at Villarreal. It’s difficult, they’re waiting for the Champions League. I appreciate Tuchel, they play well and defend aggressively. I told him: “Unfortunately I can’t play like you”. But I really like him.”

Neymar accused Olympique Marseille’s defender of racist treatment of him. “I don’t know, I hope not. Because there is no place for racism in soccer”, replies Villas-Boas at Téléfoot on the alleged incident. “It’s very serious if that happened, but I don’t think so. Prior to that incident, we had a situation where Ángel Di Maria spit. Those are things we have to avoid in football. I hope this won’t overshadow our historic achievement.”

Tuchel was critical towards his own team afterwards. “I’m not angry, it’s about seeing the game and the result separately. I’m not happy with our reaction in the last minutes. I don’t agree, it was too much”, says Tuchel. “The result isn’t good, but we played well. I’m happy with the team’s performance. If we keep playing like this, we will win all the matches. The statistics are exceptional, so I’m not worried. We only miss players, the selection is narrow. I’m hoping for new players, that’s no secret.”
