VfL Wolfsburg has apologized in a statement on the club website for the misconduct of some players on the train from Wolfsburg to Leverkusen. Several players did not wear the mandatory mouth and nose mask during that train journey on Friday. In addition, players would have behaved disrespectfully towards the train staff when they received the call to put on a mouth cap.

The incident took place when the Wolfsburg squad was on its way by train to the match against Bayer Leverkusen, which starts on Saturday afternoon. A journalist from television channel WDR happened to be on the same train and reported on the incident. “On behalf of the entire team, VfL Wolfsburg expressly apologizes for the unprofessional and inappropriate behavior of its players, and in particular to the staff of Deutsche Baan for the disrespectful behavior,” the Bundesliga number thirteen on the club’s website.

“This has never happened in this way before, and it is not in line with the usual behavior of the team. It is in no way compatible with the values ​​of VfL Wolfsburg and will not be tolerated. This should not happen again,” the club continues.

Finally, Wolfsburg reports that trainer Niko Kovac punitively addressed the players after arriving at the team hotel. The incident will be looked into further when the team returns to Wolfsburg after Saturday’s Bundesliga game. Leverkusen and Wolfsburg kick off at 3:30 PM.
