Yorbe Vertessen will leave PSV for a temporary adventure at Union Sint-Gillis, PSV announced via the official channels. Before the official announcement, Union already posted a tweet with a shirt with number 18 that, it has now been confirmed, is intended for the attacker, who comes over on a rental basis. Earlier in the day, the 22-year-old striker was already captured by an observant passerby in the street with a yellow-blue shirt in his hand. At the end of the current season, the Belgian will return to Eindhoven.

The day before the Eredivisie match with Go Ahead Eagles, trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij already confirmed that Vertessen was nominated to be rented out. Due to the arrival of Fábio Silva, the Belgian attacker no longer has to count on playing time and is kept at Union to gain experience. “After the arrival of Fábio Silva, it is important for Yorbe and also for PSV that he gets to play,” said the PSV coach.

It Eindhovens Dagblad announced earlier this week that the Royal Antwerp of Marc Overmars and Mark van Bommel was also interested in the attacker. The trainer brought Vertessen to PSV’s main force in the autumn of 2019, shortly before he was fired. The Belgian had already made his debut in professional football on behalf of Jong PSV. Partly due to various injuries, Vertessen has not yet become a permanent fixture in the Philips Stadium.

Vertessen only played 312 minutes in the Eredivisie, Europa League and TOTO KNVB Cup this season. In eleven appearances, the Belgian attacker managed to find the net twice. Van Nistelrooij usually chooses Luuk de Jong as the deepest striker and can also choose Xavi Simons for that position. Anwar El Ghazi is assured of his place on the flank. For a while there seemed to be more opportunities for Vertessen with the departure of Noni Madueke to Chelsea, but the club feels more in favor of a rental.
