The World Cup is just around the corner and the Haagse Marktweg in The Hague is already ready for it. Next Monday, the Dutch national team will start the first group match with Senegal at 5 p.m. Football zonepresenter Mounir Boualin traveled to The Hague to measure the World Cup fever and to ask the the Dutch fans about their expectations about the performance of national coach Louis van Gaal’s team.

The Haagse Marktweg, located in the Transvaal district, has been transformed into an Oranjestraat at every final tournament since 1988. The residents therefore do everything they can to maintain that tradition. During the European Football Championship last summer, the street was proclaimed ‘Most beautiful Oranjestraat in the Netherlands’. The street also received that title in 2014. Bouwmarkt Hornbach chooses a winner during each final tournament.

After the match against Senegal, the second group match against Ecuador awaits on Friday, November 25 at 5 p.m. The the Dutch will close the group stage on Tuesday, November 29 at 4 p.m. against host country Qatar. The Dutch national team has been in the Gulf State since Tuesday evening to acclimatize and prepare for the three group matches. In the Transvaal district of The Hague, the residents think that Van Gaal made one big mistake in his selection: the national coach should have called up ADO striker Thomas Verheydt as a pinchhitter!
