Patrick van Aanholt has nothing but praise for Xavi Simons. The attacker-cum-midfielder is one of the defining players at PSV this season and can ‘make it to the world top’ in the eyes of the left back. However, Simons also has something in his game that Van Aanholt is less fond of. He points out to his teammate that he should not get a stamp.

“He is really very good”, Van Aanholt begins his hymn in an extensive interview Football International. “Actually too good for his age. It is incomprehensible how mature he already plays. Xavi is only nineteen, he is co-top scorer of the Eredivisie and already had a starting place with the Dutch national team. If Xavi keeps this up, he will certainly to the world top. He just has to get those little things out.”

Van Aanholt is referring to Simons’ temperament. “Of course Xavi gets a lot of kicks. That is really not normal”, the left back also sees. “He then wants to get a story, but he shouldn’t get so angry too quickly. You have others for that. He has to let it go, otherwise you will get such a stamp and name at some point. But that goes with it Xavi will figure it out. I also talk to him about it and he also understands it. So it will be fine.”

In the interview, Van Aanholt further explains how his bond with Simons came about. “In Amsterdam I met Xavi at my physiotherapist. They started training and then I joined them. After that we always kept in touch. I also have two houses in Rojales in Spain, the town where Xavi partly grew up. It’s wonderful to go there with my family. You will be recognized, but everyone will leave you alone. You can be completely yourself there. Xavi has that too. He also pushed PSV to get me. “
