Galatasaray reached the group stage of the Europa League on Thursday evening. Fatih Terim’s team fell behind against Randers, but the Danish team put the Danish team over the knee in the second half thanks to a nice goal by Patrick van Aanholt: 2-1. After last week’s 1-1 draw, that was enough to advance to the Europa League, while Randers moves to the Conference League.

Just like Ryan Babel, Van Aanholt started in the base at Galatasaray, which therefore had to concede a goal early on. Randers started a quick counter on the right flank and saw Tosin Kehinde’s cross simply headed in by Marvin Egho: 0-1. Galatasaray took the initiative even more firmly and already had great opportunities in the first half. Mbaye Diagne shot at the crossbar, while Babel was unable to hit the target from close range.

After the break, Galatasaray was still rewarded for the pressure forward. Babel put the risen Van Aanholt to work on the left, who suddenly blasted the ball into the far corner: 1-1. After Diagne had hit the post this time, the Turks took the lead after an hour thanks to a gift from Randers. While defending, Frederik Lauenborg got the ball extremely unluckily shot against him by a teammate, which went into his own goal: 2-1. Van Aanholt hit the post in injury time.
