Steven Bergwijn and Brian Brobbey may not be available for the match against PEC Zwolle, Michael Valkanis reports in conversation with Ajax TV. The temporary replacement for John van 't Schip, who traveled to Australia, indicates that he cannot yet make a definitive judgment about the employability of the attacking duo, but that there are major doubts.

“We are still waiting for more information about Steven Bergwijn. He is struggling with complaints and perhaps he is not available,” Valkanis says via the club channel.

“We are also looking at the status of Brobbey. The match against AEK came a little too early, but we think he can train on Saturday. We will look at that, but we are ready for the game.”

Next Sunday the ball starts rolling at 4:45 PM in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Opponent PEC is Valkanis' former employer, who previously worked with Van 't Schip in Zwolle.

“It will be fun to play against PEC. What a coincidence. I'm back in the Netherlands and we're playing against my old club. It was a nice club to work for. I still have many friends and colleagues there.”

“It will be an interesting match, but it is a match in the ArenA and we have to win. We want to play good football and give a lot of people a smile on their faces for Christmas.”

“I think the team has done a very good job over the past two months,” concludes Valkanis. “It's a league match just before Christmas and we have to take that next step. Then we have the cup match. We can then rest and then start working on the next step in the process.”
