Manchester United trying to bring in Zinedine Zidane as new manager, writes The Times. The position of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is once again under discussion with the English superpower, after the hopeless 0-2 defeat in the derby against Manchester City. Zidane, however, would not be convinced for the time being and thinks that this is not exactly the best time to join Manchester United.

The club management of Manchester United hopes to be able to win Zidane through the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane. The pair previously worked with Zidane at Real Madrid and maintain a good relationship with the French coach. Zidane is relatively easy to sign for Manchester United on paper, as he has been without a club since last summer after his departure from Real Madrid.

Zidane’s reputation – who won major trophies at Real Madrid while developing young players at the same time – would suit the cultural reboot which has been promised to the supporters of Manchester United by the club management. Zidane worked in two terms as a trainer at Real Madrid (between 2016 and 2018 and between 2019 and 2021) and won the Champions League three times, the World Cup for club teams twice, the European Supercup twice and two national titles.

Slowly but surely, dissatisfaction with Solskjaer’s performance is also growing within the club management. His job was already under discussion after the embarrassing 0-5 home defeat to Liverpool. Then the name of Antonio Conte emphatically sang around, but Manchester United decided not to put Solskjaer on the street yet and the Italian has now started working at Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, there is also dissatisfaction within the selection of Manchester United about Solskjaer’s working method.

Despite this, it was reported last week in England that Solskjaer will at least still be in charge during the next game, when Manchester United visit Watford after the international break. The club management would prefer not to change managers until the summer, but work is already underway on the arrival of Zidane. According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, the Frenchman is in no rush to get back to work and is calmly waiting for a project with the right perspective. However, Romano states that there has been no contact between Zidane and Manchester United for the time being.
