Napoli continues to make a big impression in the Serie A. The champion candidate won 0-4 against Sampdoria on Thursday evening and therefore remains clear: after five games the counter is at fifteen points. Napoli therefore leads the way in Italy. Mohamed Ihattaren was not part of the match selection at Sampdoria. The reason for this is not entirely clear; the club simply stated that he is ‘unavailable’. Just under two weeks ago, Ihattaren was on the bench at the away game against Internazionale (2-2), but on Sunday he was also not there against Empoli (0-3 victory).
Just like three days ago against Udinese (also a 0-4 victory), Victor Osimhen opened the score. In the ninth minute, the attacker tried to force ball loss at Sampdoria by actively chasing the midfield. His attempt succeeded, as Adrien Silva gave the ball away clumsily. Osimhen sent a wide pass to the left towards Lorenzo Insigne, went through to the penalty area himself and was reached by his teammate again by a nice ball. Osimhen then rounded off at the second post: 0-1.
After the goal, Sampdoria put pressure on Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina to make some saves. He saved a header from Maya Yoshida on the goal line and also prevented Antonio Candreva from scoring. In between, a second goal by Osimhen was disallowed for offside. In the final phase of the first half, Napoli managed to double the margin. Hirving Lozano sent a low cross to Insigne, who cleared the ball for Fabian Ruiz. From about twenty meters he placed the ball in the left corner.
Five minutes after the break, Napoli closed the game. Osimhen received the ball on the five meter line from Insigne and scored his second goal of the evening. This did not satisfy the hunger of the visitors. With a loud bang, again on a pass from Lozano, Piotr Zielinski blasted the ball into the top right corner. Osimhen then missed a great opportunity to complete his hat-trick. On the other hand, Antonio Candreva’s goal was disallowed for offside by Francesco Caputo during the attack. In the final phase of the match, substitute Adam Ounas encountered goalkeeper Emil Audero, so that the 0-5 was not forthcoming.
