FC Twente does not agree with the penalty imposed by UEFA following the home match in the preliminary round of the Conference League against Fiorentina. The Tukkers are not so much concerned with the amount of the fine that must be paid, but the fact that the Italian club has to pay much less. That is in Enschede, writes Tubantia.

Before the match against Fiorentina, which was eventually drawn 0-0 after the 2-1 defeat in Italy in the Grolsch Veste, it was already restless in the city center of Enschede. The riots then moved to the stadium, where Fiorentina’s fans also misbehaved. For example, fireworks bombs and burning torches were thrown into a family compartment, causing at least one supporter to sustain permanent hearing damage.

UEFA fined the Italian club ten thousand euros for this. Twente, on the other hand, has to pay 55,000 euros, and that for throwing drinking cups on the field and blocking the stairs in the stands. The significant difference between the two fines has prompted the club from Enschede to contact the European Football Association. Tubantia. A letter asks for an explanation about the penalties and especially about the difference in severity.

Twente eventually had to acknowledge its superiority in the sub-topper from Italy, although there were certainly opportunities to lift Fiorentina over two games. The latter club now plays in the group stage of the Conference League against Heart of Midlothian, Istanbul Basaksehir and RFS from Riga. Seven points were collected from the first four group matches and therefore Fiorentina is now in second place in the group.
