Thomas Tuchel had an excellent start on Saturday evening as coach of Bayern Munich. The German coach was already on a 3-0 lead with his team in the squatter against Borussia Dortmund halfway through the first half. The first goal came after a horrible blunder by Gregor Kobel, who finally missed a deep pass from Dayot Upcamecano’s own half. Thomas Müller also had an important part in the 4-2 victory of the record master. Donyell Malen scored the second goal on behalf of the visitors. With the win, Bayern takes over the lead in the Bundesliga from Dortmund: 55 points to 53.

At Bayern, the international week was all about the trainer change. Julian Nagelsmann was somewhat put on the street, after which the national champion quickly presented a successor in the person of Tuchel. The latter, who immediately kicked off with a duel against his former employer, had only a few days to work towards the squatter against Dortmund with his new team. In the first act, however, there was little sign of that. After Dortmund’s first danger could be neutralized by Matthijs de Ligt with a beautiful sliding, the home team closed the game in ten minutes.

The opening goal could be attributed to Kobel, who made a hopeless mistake when Upamecano tried to reach Leroy Sané with a deep pass. The German goalie seemed to nip the danger in the bud, but completely missed the ball: 1-0. Barely five minutes later, the score was doubled by Müller, who was able to work a header from De Ligt from a corner at the near post. The same Müller also made it 0-3 halfway through the first half, when he was quick to work a rebound from Sané behind Kobel.

Dortmund was grossly sloppy in the first company and, apart from that chance, did not show up in front of Yann Sommer’s goal in minute seven. To make matters worse, the team also has to continue without Nico Schlotterbeck, who started the game as a doubtful case and had to stop the battle early. Edin Terzic had seen enough after 45 minutes of play and decided to bring Donyell Malen into the team at the start of the second half. Salih Özcan also came within the lines. However, it did not change much in the game image.

After five minutes in the second half, the margin was already increased to four. After a pass from Sané and an extremely watched transfer from Müller, Kingsley Coman was able to finish at the far post: 4-0. A very nice goal by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (half bicycle kick) then seemed to aggravate the suffering for BVB, but the Cameroonian was in an offside position. Moments later, he saw a bet turned by Kobel. After the fourth goal, Bayern slowed down a bit and had to pay for it with a distance shot from Malen. The Dutchman found Sommer on his way.

It only seemed like a postponement for the home team, as Emre Can still scored the honorary goal twenty minutes before the end. The substitute Serge Gnabry floored Jude Bellingham in his own box, after which Can remained cool from eleven meters: 4-1. After Tuchel then gave Ryan Gravenberch another five minutes of playing time, Malen made sure the score became somewhat bearable for Dortmund. The attacker worked the ball controlled in the right corner: 4-2. The next test is scheduled for Tuchel next Tuesday, when SC Freiburg is the opponent in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal. Dortmund will take on RB Leipzig a day later.
