Tottenham Hotspur still want to sell Steven Bergwijn in January, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday evening. A striking message there Sky Sports wrote at the end of last calendar year that an exit of the Dutchman in January was not an option due to personnel problems and a full football program of the club. However, Bergwijn now seems to be able to think of a new challenge.

“Tottenham has decided to sell Steven Bergwijn,” Romano wrote on Twitter. According to the journalist, various clubs are interested in the services of the wing attacker. It was previously announced that Ajax has an above-average interest in Bergwijn, as a formal offer has already been made the Spurs. However, the latter initially did not respond to the Ajax’s proposed deal.

The news about Tottenham’s plans to sell Bergwijn is remarkable. Last Friday, the chance of a transfer from the winger seemed to have expired, as manager Antonio Conte indicated at the press conference that Heung-Min Son has suffered a muscle injury and is likely to be out until February. Tottenham has a packed schedule and will play no fewer than five games in January. It would offer opportunities for Bergwijn, who according to Conte has almost recovered from the calf injury that kept him sidelined in recent weeks. “He feels good,” Conte said.

Journalist Mike Verweij said Friday evening in the podcast Kick-Off by The Telegraph incidentally that, despite the reports from England, it is still too early to rule out a transfer. Although Verweij previously spoke about a rental deal with Tottenham Hotspur, the journalist does not rule out a definitive transfer. “No action will be taken from the Bergwijn camp, because he was already on the starting blocks twice before to go to Ajax,” said Verweij. “When he was still a PSV player and last summer, in the event that Ajax reached an agreement with the Spurs. To avoid a third disappointment, they are now waiting for both clubs to reach an agreement. Then Bergwijn is certainly willing to come to Ajax, he certainly likes that.”
