Tottenham Hotspur ran into a loss of points in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon in the final phase. It looked like that for a long time the Spurs would take a 1-2 win against Newcastle United, but the home team struck five minutes before the end of regular time: 2-2. Harry Kane was twice accurate at St. James’ Park, crowning himself as the top scorer of away games in the Premier League on behalf of a club: 84 goals. Tottenham remains in fifth position with 49 points, while Newcastle is seventeenth with 29 points.

The first opportunity of the match was noted by Tottenham, where Steven Bergwijn was missing from the match selection. Kane fired a promising shot at the enemy goal after a nice solo, but goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka thwarted the striker’s attempt. Halfway through the first half, there was also a leading role for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. First, the Frenchman dived a dangerous header from Dwight Gayle from the far corner, after which the closing post also pulled the longest straw in the rebound.

Three minutes after referee Craig Pawson rightly rejected an offside goal from Carlos Vinicius, the goal on the other side did count. Due to major mistakes in the build-up of Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sánchez, the ball ended up in front of Sean Longstaff, who gave Joelinton the chance to easily shoot in: 1-0. However, Newcastle could not enjoy the lead for long. Within two minutes after the opening goal, Kane already worked the equalizer against the ropes after a nice cross from Giovani Lo Celso.

With that, Tottenham was shaken awake, because four minutes after leveling the score, the Londoners took the lead. This time it was Tanguy Ndombele who had a sharp pass to Kane, who fired in diagonally from the right side of the penalty area: 1-2. However, Newcastle was not discouraged and remained the parent for the remainder of the match. The Magpies survived a few major attacks by, among others, Tanganga and Kane, while the home team itself managed to score. Joseph Willock got the leather in his feet after a carom in front of the goal of the visitors and fired in the 2-2 impeccably. Due to the draw, Tottenham does not benefit from the misstep of number four Chelsea. The Blues went 2-5 against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Mourinho’s team remains fifth, two points behind Chelsea.
